F for fish farming.

Right - Trout a fresh water fish is especially farmed here in some part of the natural  flowing streams. Trout is a very tasty fresh water fish and is normally available on demand in some of the restaurants and hotels in the tourist places here.

Trout is farmed as a gaming fish for angling.  Trout fish both brown and rainbow are found in the snow fed Beas, Sutlej and Ravi rivers in the higher reaches where the temperature is around zero degree. The variety however is very delicate and needs constant flow of ice cold fresh water free of silt in high altitudes. Such favourable factors are found in Barot which is 25km uphill from Joginder Nagar, and in  Nagar some 8 km before Manali on the left  fresh Trout farming spots are found along this stream run by private tour operators and serve some of the rare delicacies you would love to taste at least once. Another new one started by the Govt is in Thalla village around 12 km from Bharmour in Chamba. Overall there are around 100 small and big trout fish farms in Kullu, Chamba, Shimla, Kinnaur and Mandi districts.

Aside from trout Himachal river is full of fresh water fishes like Rohu, Katla, etc. The state however bans fish catching during the rainy season to avoid removal of small fishes, as this is the breeding season. And there would be no fish available from June to Aug 1st week in HP market.

So avoid this period if you are a fish lover and enjoy fish farming and angling in one of these fish farms.

That's for today. Tomorrow - G
